Second Half Begins At Home, What To Look For

Your playoff-bound, first half champion Montgomery Biscuits return to begin the first homestand of the second half. Questions abound for the club, which has already seen the promotion of its best pitcher (McKay) and a flurry of names in the starting pitcher slot of the lineup card. Several position players have had solid numbers and are knocking on the door to triple-A and the big club has just learned it won't get one of its expected starting pitchers back.

Can the Biscuits maintain the momentum of the first half to win an all-time record number of games, will they maintain enough to be a potent force in the postseason? Only time will tell but the tale begins at home tonight against the Jacksonville... oh you gotta be kidding me.... Jumbo Shrimp.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Yes its the first time we have hosted the Crustaceans this year, we should get used to seeing them more often when we are shuffled to the Southern Division next summer. We will see plenty more Shrimp and Wahoos and get less Barons and Smokies.

The Jacksonville prospects -
Sixto Sanchez, the Marlins top prospect according to MLB Pipeline
Jorge Guzman, hard throwing righthander ranked #9
Brian Miller, speedy outfielder checks in at #14
Joe Dunand, shortstop ranks 23rd
Tommy Eveld, righthanded pitcher sneaks in at #30
unranked Caleb Smith has made a dozen starts for the Marlins this season
unranked pitchers Cody Poteet and Robert Dugger have fared well in the league so far

This Marlins farm team has plenty of arms but not enough bats in the rack to win games.

Any excellent pitching staff suffers from a lack of run support, this ex-Suns squad are among the leagues toughest pitchers but sit last in counting stats from the batting side. Runs, Homers, RBI, heck their On-Base Percentage is only .290 and that just don't get it done.

Look for the Biscuits to keep the pedal to the metal, although expect some ups and downs as the club works through some growing pains at the levels above.

There will be new Biscuits to see and I expect a couple current guys could be looking for Durham apartments before the next homestand.

Today we welcome Jhonleider Salinas to the club, getting his first look at his new home park after joining the team on the road. Salinas, along with Nate Lukes, were dealt by Cleveland for Brandon Guyer in 2016.

Thurday night be sure to look for Sixto, the Marlins top prospect, as he takes the hill against the Biscuits. Its always cool to see a #1 ranked prospect!
